Ford Transit Custom Van Signage for Hortlands in Iver

Sometimes a vehicle does not need a full wrap to make an impact.

For Hortlands, we recently branded a new black Ford Transit Custom at their site in Iver, using simple single-colour conforming vinyl to create a clean, high-contrast finish that feels completely at home with the wider Hortlands brand.

Black van. Bright green graphics. Job done rather nicely.

Project details

Client: Hortlands
Vehicle: Ford Transit Custom
Location: Iver, Buckinghamshire
Service: Vehicle signage and van graphics
Material: Single-colour conforming vinyl
Finish: Bright green branding on gloss black vehicle

Keeping it simple

Hortlands already has a strong visual identity, so there was no need to cover every available centimetre of the vehicle.

Instead, we used their distinctive green branding against the gloss black bodywork of the Transit Custom. The contrast does most of the heavy lifting, making the vehicle instantly recognisable without overcomplicating the design.

The main side graphics combine the Hortlands wordmark, “Enhancing landscapes” strapline and oversized brand emblem, while a smaller logo treatment on the bonnet gives the front of the vehicle a consistent branded finish.

It is simple, but very deliberate.

Single-colour conforming vinyl

The vehicle graphics were produced using single-colour conforming vinyl, cut to shape and professionally applied directly to the van.

For this kind of project, cut vinyl is a great option. There are no printed backgrounds or unnecessary layers, just crisp brand graphics that work naturally with the existing colour of the vehicle.

Conforming vinyl also allows the graphics to follow the shape and contours of the Transit Custom, giving a clean finish across the body panels.

And because the black paintwork becomes part of the design, the finished vehicle still feels smart and understated while being considerably more noticeable than it was when it arrived.

Turning another vehicle into part of the brand

Vehicle signage works best when it feels like an extension of the wider identity rather than a completely separate advertising exercise.

Hortlands’ distinctive green, typography and emblem already appear across their wider brand, so carrying those elements onto the new Transit Custom helps keep everything consistent.

Whether the van is arriving on site, parked outside a project or travelling between jobs, it becomes another visible touchpoint for the business.

Which is quite useful when the vehicle was going to be driving around anyway.

Designed for the vehicle

Even relatively simple van signage needs a little planning.

Doors, handles, windows, panel lines and the overall proportions of the vehicle all affect where graphics should sit.

For the Transit Custom, the large Hortlands emblem makes good use of the rear side panel, while the wordmark and strapline sit further forward where they remain clear and easy to read.

The bonnet branding then brings the identity around to the front without trying to compete with the shape of the vehicle.

The result is a vehicle that feels branded rather than decorated.

There is a difference.
